lol...I didn't intend for this thread to turn into a cpu war, just passing on info for you smart.... I mean Intel guys. AMD will be releasing it's quad cores about the same time and I think this is intel's way of prolonging the bleeding on AMD's part.

I have finally fired up my core 2 duo rig and I must say it's night and day from the old P4. I still need to add one more card, then I'll post some pictures of the beast. Sadly enough as I posted in another thread my new hardware doesn't overcome my lack of skill, as Eye pwned me as usual last night. However I think it should handle UT3...at least it better or I'll run over it with my truck.

Sweet man, glad to hear the new rig is coming along.Might have to trade in my HT chip for the new one as well.Khan uses AMD,but was real impressed with the way my Intel runs,he had talked about switching.Ah,well,we'll see.

Oh,and Eye's still wrong,Intel for the win. nuff said!

The big issue you will face OT is the same one I did. Upgrading from a socket 478 to a 775 means new mobo..new mobo means DDR2 memory and a pcie video card. the newest generation video card need special power supplies as this HD 2900 XT requires two 6 pin power connectors. (actually one 6 pin and one 8 pin if you want to use ATI's on board overclocking utility)

Heck I went from a 1.8 gig 478 to a 2.4 to a 3.0 gig pretty easily...but the new platform means big changes.

This is the first time in a loooong time I built a completely new rig from top to bottom... but now that it's done I'm quite happy I did. If these quad cores drop as much as they say they will there might be an E6700 dual core in the swap meet come July.

My son is quite happy with my old rig too.... he can play "city of heroes" now without all the lag...lol.

Well, let me sign up for the swap meet, then!

Actually,I don't have any lag issues, now, and with the Hyper Threading,I can usually download big files while I play, and not suffer from it.Yet I still get all wet thinking about the Xtreme series.Dammit, now I gotta go take another cold shower.

You know it's funny, in that thread about intel's price drops ppl are saying what a beast teh "barcelona" core is going to be, and that intel has got to drop prices to prevent AMD from gaining a larger market share like they did when that whole "RAMBUS" fiasco went down. Intel apparently learned not to muck with AMD and is taking no chances. They know when they are beat. This stuff has been going on for years now and AMD will survive.

Minion you know its also funny that you don't like AMD. You just bought a AMD chip, because AMD and ATI are one company now lol. You own AMD anyway hahahaha you can't escape it!!!! lololol!!! AMD FTW!!!

I have owned both AMD and Intel chips, but I prefer Intel. AMD is a great chip too...I'm really just playing around. Right you are...I have a pc with intel AND amd chips...woohoo.

My main reasoning behind the post is for those who are about to embark on a new rig build....a deal is a deal. If you can wait till July and grab a quad core ANYTHING for 250 bucks or so man...that would be sweet!

Yeah,I used AMD before I bought my Intel, never had a prob with either chip.Personally,I buy what fits my needs at a price I can afford, just so happens that I got a sweet deal when I bought my last chip.Intel 3.0ghz HT for 100.00 was hard to turn down.

Now I guess I should read the article that started all of this, huh?

yeah i have to agree, i research whatever products are hot at the time of the build and buy what ever fits my budget for price vs. performance. Quad core for $250... hmmm... tasty.
