ut2k4? or UT3? Latest game patches? x-fi? Blue screen codes?

2k4 sometimes crashes to windows with a GPF on my new rig. I haven't tried to troubleshoot it yet.

I guess you get no error screen, just a frozen pc? Just for grins post your "ucc.log" file out of your system folder and we'll see if it hides any information that may help.

UT2k4,everything up-to-date.This started last week, haven't made any changes to anything,no blue screen,no error messages, just freezes in the middle of game play. Also have been having the sound just quit,as well. This occurs with several other games, also.Tried shutting down all background apps, but didn't help.Hardware problem?Comps just a little over a year old, just can't see that being a problem, myself, but I guess anythings possible.

Does it always halt the system? You might check your application and system logs in computer management. If its always a halt there probably won't be any entries in the log, but you might as well check it anyway if your troubleshooting.

Wow... looks like it opens and then closes the log with no information in between. You can try doing a reinstall, leaving all your folders in place and it will just overwrite the stock UT files.

Mine did that, then wouldn't even install certain games just a month or so before the cpu & hd blew.Started with ut3,would just freeze and had to shut power down and restart. It then started acting up in all games.Hope this isn't whats happening to you.

My buddy has this sort of a problem with UT2k4. Game runs fine but randomly freezes just like how you describe OT. No error logs no nothin'. Try running UT in safe mode and only check one option at a time to try and isolate the problem.

I added a free trial of "Sandr Soft" benchmarking and diagnostic tool to the downloads under "Utilities". Here is link.. LINK

Run the "file System Benchmark" on that drive and see if it fails.

Power supply. If it runs out of juice while being worked hard, it can cause memory dumps and shutdowns, or just shutdown w/o warning and no error messages, or just lockup.

An "edjumacated guess", of course. Happened to me after a vid card upgrade a few years ago.

Glad to hear you found the culprit OT... I know that HAD to piss you off when it crashed. Is it just me or have power supplies really taken a turn for the worst the last couple of years? It seems in the old days those things lasted forever.. now I think they are engineered to fail sooner.
