  • Windows XP Mode for Win7

Just found this today, maybe handy if for any of those programs that don't like win7.

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/vir...cked=winXpMode

Decided to try it,pretty cool. It's like having 2 os systems except xp is inside win7.

Yea there's even supposed to be a way to publish an app where you just put the icon anywhere and you launch it but it just runs the app without having to start the entire VM.

However playing with this just led me to downloading Oracle's free Virtual Box software which was much easier to use and friendlier with Linux VMs.

In either case you will benefit from a computer that has Hyper-threading technology enabled.

Why is there a drop down menu for home version to download if it doesn't work?

Either ms screwed up or it's a really crappy sales tactic,I dl'd it twice for 64bit home and for sure won't work on the new laptop we bought for the office.I thought it would be nice to have because some of the old programs the state still uses.

There is also something in the new laptop we bought,it won't let you upgrade from the disc without a reformat. You now have to run up grade anytime app and dl it from ms.Hate to do it but I guess I'll reformat the new laptop.

Yes that is crappy Freak. I hate it when these companies try to restrict what you can do with your own machine that YOU own. Is there a way to perhaps uninstall the "upgrade anytime" app and then try to upgrade from the disc?

I guess it is better to reformat now if you had to rather than later when you have a bunch of things on there.
