  • Server Packetloss

As you guys know I have been working with the colo to try and resolve this issue. If those of you that are experiencing high packetloss wouldn't mind helping me out I would like to ask a favor. I have installed "PingPlotter" and it allows me to graph my connection to the colo over a 10 minute time frame.

If you wouldn't mind installing this free little program and sending me an image (File/save image) and attaching it here as a thumbnail it would be a great help. This image will look like the one I have attached. You can grab the program here: http://www.pingplotter.com/downloads/pngplt_std.exe

Which servers would you like data from? or doesn't it matter?

From my testing it doesn't matter which IP attached to the box you use. I would like to say that the colo told me they could not use these results for evidence when going to Level3, but use it to pinpoint where the problem is, below is discussion from the colo. FYI a "100 ping test" is a command line test like tracert. ping -n 100 72.249.10.39 will ping Solitude 100 times.

"I will need the data during the loss because Level3 will not be able to find any
problem if we were to take the data right now. Lets do 100 Ping test to the
server, traceroute to the server and from the server back to your computer. Do
not use ping plotter or MTR as they can throw off loss/latency data and is not
accepted, we use it to pinpoint where the problem is going on."

Ok so maybe I'll spectate for a good while tonight and wait until something happens to grab ping results. Or as best i can anyway.

EDIT: so they don't like ping plotter, so i'll use tracer T XD and pathping results if i can.

EDIT2: pathping and tracert results as of 5 mins ago...

Detroit to Virginia, then Atlanta, then Dallas. I'm surprised I'm not hitting Hawaii too.

Thanks guys, I sent in two 100 ping tests and a forward and reverse tracert to the colo last night. they will be taking the issue up with Level3 since the issue seems to be coming from their pipe. One of the 100 ping tests showed 5 percent PL and the other was 6 percent PL. Hopefully this will be corrected soon.
