  • Video card upgrade

Hey guys i am looking for some help / suggestions, I am looking into getting a new video card and on a budget, Trying to find the best deal for a video card under $100 if i can. I will start with my pc specs.

    AMD FX-8350 8core cpu
Asus M5a99X Evo R2.0 suports sli and amd crossfire in quad. https://www.asus.com/ca-en/Motherboards/M5A99X_EVO_R20/
    8 GB DDR3 Kingston Hyper X
EVGA Geforce GTX 550 Ti. I think the video card does not support SLI but the box does say SLI on it. I am getting miss readings on it.. CPU-Z shows 1GB of GDDR5, dxdiag shows 5GB,the box shows 1GB with a sticker on top shows 2GB..

The card does not play the new unreal that well and find there is some lag/slowdowns in other games.
The local store i shop at is http://www.canadacomputers.com

Both the EVGA Geforce GTX 550 Ti 1024 & 2048 (1 and 2 gig) cards will run in SLI from what I'm reading. Of course you would have to verify what you have to get a matched pair.

Your card is going to be hard to beat at CDN$ 100.00. My suggestion would be to confirm the card you have and buy a second one to use in SLI. I found some on eBay there in Canada that you could pick up for under $100.00. HERE

Are you sure it's your video card? What OS and how much memory are you running? Memory is dirt cheap compared to video cards...

The EVGA GTX550 Ti is SLI capable, however, whatever games you play have to also support SLI, otherwise, the game defaults to one card -unless you're in Windows 10, which I believe sees SLI cards as ONE when it comes to games and programs. Windows 10 also utilizes both cards VRAM combined, so if you have two 2GB cards, games will see it at 4gb VRAM instead of 2GB like previous versions of Windows. It's part of Direct X 12.

To ensure the card is SLI, there will be a small part on the edge of the video card that will have gold "fingers" toward the back of the edge of the card. This is where the SLI bridge plugs into. Your motherboard should have come with the SLI bridge

Best bang for the buck from what I can see is the EVGA GeForce GT 740 Superclocked with 4GB. It's older DDR3 memory but it does have 4GB.

            Blues,

Minus is in Canada and I assume is spending CAD$.

He would need to use the Canadian sites or import duty would be expensive.

Forgot about the exchange rate difference. It's going to be tough to find a good card for $72 USD
