  • Sound issues.

This past week my sound card decided to change the way ut2k4 sounds. Everything seems to be coming from the sides and 3d audio is just ... well ... off. Hit sounds are weird too. It's only ut2k4, all other games work fine.

I have a soundblaster Z pcie with latest drivers.

Any tips on where to tweak ut sound settings other than the obvious? Registry, or elsewhere?

Sigh, upon a little digging this issue reads like an epitaph. They don't make 'em like they used to...

I have weird issues with sound also, but oddly related to on board sound. I have a Gigabyte Z97-HD3 with Realtek onboard sound. I've had to use a crappy set of Plantronics USB headphones because they are the only ones that seem to work with UT. I have a set of HyperX iCLoud headphones, and no matter if I use the USB or anolog inputs, the sound in UT is like I'm in an can stuck underwater. The sound is muffled, with extreme bass and extreme reverberations. Same headphones for normal sounds on the web, or even stored video is fine, not anything great, but both 32bit and 64 bit versions of UT sound like shit with them. Also, I noticed that 64bit UT doesn't allow me to use H/W 3D or EAX . I spent close to $100 on a great set of headphones and it sucks ass to think I;ll have to shell out more money for soundcard....
      I'm not gay........but $20 bucks is $20 bucks!

Pfft dude, the more i dig into this issue, the more depressed i become. Creative doesn't even make sound cards anymore, they make shitty usb devices and headsets.

        WTF!

Closer to re-installing my old X-fi on this new rig. With the OLD drivers + software.

I certainly preferred my old x-fi card over the sound blaster Zx I have now. If it still worked I would have never replaced it for that very reason zen.

I'm still using my Titanium HD. This sound card is the only thing stopping me from going to an ITX build.

The Soundblaster Z, ZX, and ZXR are all PCIe, and even the USB sound cards aren't like the Extigy (I still have one) with the latency.

My Zx had issues with UT2k4 for a while, then discovered the "latest" drivers basically were crap and required the old drivers completely removed, then install the new. I generally end up installing the PAX versions, found here:

I have the ZxR, but I use it with stereo headphones for UT. The ZxR has an excellent analog output through the daughter card with it's Burr Brown DAC. I use it as an input to my 2.1 system for FLAC and DSD audio files.

UT2004 has amazing sound orientation especially with Rolloff @ 0.40, the lowest allowed by AntiTCC.

These are my Sound Settings, extremely accurate in pinpointing where everyone is.

I use both Stereo Headphones (Audio Technica AD700 and BeyerDynamic DT 990 Pro) and Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX speakers with my Titanium HD sound card.
