does anyone use the index of ut2004 to get maps? i just downloaded like 15, but they wont work because i do not actually have the map pack, and i cant find the maps anywhere else without having to download a 2 gb map pack ^^ (ie: d2f [ shieldjumping trials], Squall's shieldjumping trials, color trials, elf's newb learning trials -solo,etc.) if anyone has a good place to dl some fun sjing maps / easy solo trials maps, id love you for life :d
EDIT: when i download those maps, they come in uz2 form, but when i try to decompress, it says "error- compressed files must end in .uz2" but they are already in uz2! i also opened ut2004 twice, then looked at my log, and it says i just dont have it. like-

i did a little something here just for compressing/decompressing ut2004 files as i run a server, and have for years..

what i did is i made a folder on my e: drive, under my server folder i called it uz2 ( e:\servers\2k4\uz2\

i made 2 different batch files referencing my ut installation, and the uz2 folder i made.

i copy the files I'm wanting to compress/decompress into the folder, then i pick one of the batch files depending on what I'm doing (compressing or decompressing)

for the decompressing, the batch file i made has this in it:

    Code:
    C:\games\ut2004\system\ucc.exe decompress e:\servers\2k4\uz2\*.*
i made that batch file by using notepad, pasting that into it, then saved it in my documents as decompress.txt. once saved, i renamed it from decompress.txt to decompress.bat.

now when i click it, it runs the command, and decompresses everything in the folder that is uz2 compressed.

once the files are decompressed, then you will need to move them into the correct folders under ut2004, *.ut2 into the maps folder, *.utx into the textures folder, etc.

hopefully that will help you get those files decompressed.

as far as the missing packages, those are usually texture files, or static mesh files, or sound files that the map needs to load.. if you grab a custom map, and there is a tex file that goes with it, if it is compressed and ends in a uz2 extension, you can place those into the decompress folder like i was saying and once decompressed, move it to the correct folder in your ut install.

hope this is helpful, and not just confusing..

You can use UT2004MI located here it will compress or decompress files easily without using the ucc function. Use this and decompress the map, add it to you maps folder. then start UT2004 and if the map is not available read your log and it will tell you any missing files that are needed to play the map. Grab these from your .uz2 source and decompress them as well until you have all that you need. (most newer maps are standalone and will need no additional files).

if they were easier to learn and maintain, everyone would have one......and everyone would write software that worked on them....
