No shader model 3.0 is the only drawback to the x850, new rig time anyway right?

Yeah..I'm ordering pieces now. Vista however seems to not be on the list..hmmm. I was just curious running the compatability test, and that failure was for the very highest vista version. The first two levels resulted in a full passing score. I really have no use for an os that requires a gig of ram and 256MB gpu memory. that in itself says "resource hog" all over it. Hell, I've played some really awesome games that required less.

You get your money's worth with free advice?

I think my (lol) copy of XP is just fine for now. If a game comes out with DX-10, then I guess I'll just have to hear about the headaches others have trying to play it. A couple friends that I have that got free copys of Vista as a survey gift, and have had nothing but headaches since they installed the crap. Some gift, huh? Micro$haft, and Bill Gates can just lick a hairy one!

here is another fun vista feature...if you mess things up or want to do your system over again, vista will let you activate the cd key once. if you re-install it again it brings you to a web page to buy another license at the same price you paid for the original copy. so be prepared to spend time on the phone with their tech support and beg them that you really are re-installing on the same computer as before and not trying to put it on multiple computers in your house. Vista looks nice, but it is a resource hog, tried a copy here on my high end gaming sys and frame rates dropped over 40% and they say vista was going to be optimized for gaming....pffft whatever.

              1) Find out what brand hard drive you have.

              2) Go to thier website and download thier reformat utility.

              3) Make floppy or cd as instructed.

              4) Boot from it and wipe that crap off your hard drive.

              5) Install XP

I did the same on a friends pc and the windows xp install picked up the hard drive partitions just fine. Did you boot from the cd? Make sure the computer is set to boot off of the cdrom first and boot off the xp cd. If it is a RAID array you will need RAID drivers, xp setup will prompt you for them, you will need a floppy.

Delete all partitions on the hard drive, repartition it and do a full format ntfs (not a quick format) and then install xp. Same as minion's suggestion basically.

Go home, smoke a bong load, and forget all about that horrid OS vista lol.

I'm thinking if you are otherwise happy with the os and it's not eating BOTH gigs of your memory maybe you should leave it. After all it is the future of windows, we will only be able to sidestep it for so long.

Be brave young warrior, run like the wind into the unknown vista!.

Hit alt + ctrl + delete then go to task manager and resources. You should see a live graph in there somewhere too.

You should see memory and cpu usage numbers in there...just make sure you don't have any extra programs running at the time.
