My problem with VISTA was it seemed like such a resource hog..... everything seemed

      so

      slow

so i bought 2 toshiba laptops for the offices and immediately uninstalled Vista and put XP on them.... now they are little speedsters (faster than my desktop I play UT on). So my question is.... is Windows 7 the same way? Do you need a beefy piece of meat to run it? Cause if so... i've got that covered!!!! But do you need a beefy computer to run it? Cause if so, i'm screwed. Forever running XP... or hell... maybe Ubuntu so I can stick it to the man.

Heya Yellow. Windows 7 isn't as "bulky" and as much as a resource hog as Vista, and it is slightly faster, but not by much. However, it doesn't even come close to the speed of XP according to a study I read. You can see the results of the test here http://www.pcworld.com/article/16448...han_vista.html Also, if you would like to know if your dekstop pc will run Windows 7, you can always use the Microsoft compatibility tool. More information is here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/w.../dd353205.aspx and the upgrade advisor tool is here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...e-advisor.aspx I hope this information is useful.

The only reason i would upgrade is DirectX 10.1 and 11. Other than that fuck vista and win7. I hate happy pretty garbage OS's built for noobs.

I have to say my Windows 7 install is actually faster than my tired old XP was. Of course a fresh xp install may be faster than this but I'm liking the new functionality that wasn't there in XP.

I like the eye candy too, I mean come on ... we buy super video cards to play games anyway, why not make them useful with the rest of our desktop too?

Because i want to save my video cards for 3d rendering and not have them running all sorts of little widgets and desktop crap that burns up my GPU's cooling fans and needs to be unloaded from memory when I launch a game anyway...

I sense a disturbance in the force.... tainted by the dark side Minion, you have been...

I have two HD's in my rig.an 80 gb and a 250 gb that's partitioned into two 125 gb sections, thought I might run it on one of those partitions.

I was thinking the same only dual boot for the time being. We all know eventually we are going to have to let go of xp.

True, but I prefer to wait a year before buying new M$ OS's. 1. Price 2. Updates/SP's 3. Known performance tweaks.

Although I like this pro-active approach MS is taking with Win7 beta program.

                                ya i like it too
i have been running W7 for over a year now, thru the betas and now the release candidate..

                                i really like the OS

so far haven't paid a red cent to use it and still have gotten full functionality of everything the ultimate 64 bit version has to offer.. i say what a deal for now
