Windows 7 Question

Yea they are doing some weird stuff on the file system with permissions and crap. I hate it because I do a lot of scripting with batch files and it gets really annoying.

Bets thing is right click your UT2004 icon and run as Administrator.

I tried this and it still wouldn't let me write to the config files, I finally went to both the "User.ini" and the "UT2004.ini" and gave them each write permissions and my settings stuck.

I fixed my lock up issues by deleting my UT2004.ini and letting it rewrite it.

The strange thing is I installed this with my XP install still on the hard drive, but chose the "Don't upgrade" selection (you can't upgrade from XP to 7 anyway only from Vista to 7). I reinstalled my UT2004 from the disc and it somehow migrated all my maps and other files into the new install. This was actually pretty sweet until I realized it migrated the UT2004.ini file too, hence the deletion fixed the problem.

OK,put Win7 on another HD I had lying around.Let's see how it goes.One thing that pisses me off,like Vista,my SoundMax no longer gives me the option to use surround sound,so,we'll see how long I can put up with that,otherwise,it does seem to be a pretty nice looking OS.

Try removing the present driver, then do a windows update and let Microsoft download the newest driver, I read in a couple of forums that this worked for them.

SB fx had the same issues and came out with win 7 drivers.

Took the plunge,installed it on my storage drive so I can boot either.Win7 didn't pickup my fx drivers had to do it manually but seems to have the rest.

Too much like vista,can't even tell it where to install firefox. You don't have permission,wtf is everyone suppose to be stupid or what?

See my post #4. You can turn UAC off. Also, just make sure you're logged in as administrator. As far as installing programs such as firefox, I've always just used the default directory it gives. If you are getting the "You don't have permission" prompt, I would just make sure I was logged in as admin and have UAC turned down, or off.

I never tried Vista, maybe I would have liked that too.

I've had no issues installing programs with Win7, from my Office 2007 to my FTP client.

If you are running the 64-bit version of the OS, you can download the UT2k4 64-bit executable and the 64-bit 3369 patch, although UT should run just fine with the 32-bit .exe. If you have other issues, just post it and I am sure one of us will have the answer.

*Note* After some reading up on it, it appears the 64-bit 3369 patch converts it to the 64-bit version and the 64-bit .exe is included in the 3369 patch. So you may not need the second link. Here are the release notes for the 64-bit Patch:

To install:
- Obviously, you need a Win64 installation on your system. If you
aren't sure, you don't have one. You need an AMD64 or EM64T chip, not
Itanium.
- Install UT2004 from the retail discs (any retail version will do).
The 32-bit installer will work fine.
- Patch the game with the 3369 patch. The patch program is also 32-bit,
but it will also work fine on Win64. This will crash on startup if you
don't patch to 3369.
- Unzip the above file into your ut2004 installation, so that
ut2004-win64.exe ends up in the game's System directory,
UT2004-Win64Logo.bmp ends up in the Help directory, etc.
- Run ut2004-win64.exe instead of ut2004.exe.

Please note that you use UT2004-win64.ini and UCC-win64.ini, which keeps
these seperate from your existing settings. The Win64 and Win32 versions
can completely coexist in the same installation if you want to switch
back and forth.

I installed the 3369 patch (64-bit) and ran the .exe but didn't notice any real difference between it and the 32-bit. The 64-bit .exe did crash on me once but that was it.
